Executive Summary

Despite persistent global uncertainties—including geopolitical tensions, slowing growth, inflationary pressure, and supply chain disruptions—Vietnam maintained strong economic momentum during the first half of 2026. Supported by expanding industrial production, resilient domestic demand, recovering tourism, and continued foreign investment, the country remained one of Southeast Asia’s fastest-growing economies.

Vietnam’s GDP grew 8.18% year-on-year, with manufacturing, retail sales, exports, and investment all posting solid performance. The broad-based improvement across multiple sectors demonstrates Vietnam’s resilience and provides a stronger foundation for sustainable long-term economic growth.

Economic Growth & Industrial Expansion

Vietnam recorded broad-based growth across all major sectors. Industry and construction expanded by 9.81%, services by 8.09%, and agriculture by 3.87%, with manufacturing continuing to be the primary driver of economic growth.

Industrial production remained robust, as the Industrial Production Index (IIP) increased 10.8% and processing and manufacturing grew 11.4%. These results reflect improving production capacity, stronger export-oriented manufacturing, and Vietnam’s continued role as a regional manufacturing hub.

Trade, Investment & Business Environment

Vietnam’s external sector continued to expand despite global uncertainty. Total merchandise trade reached USD 549.69 billion, with an increase of 21.0% for exports and 33.4% for imports , reflecting solid manufacturing demand and rising production activity.

Investment also remained resilient. Realized FDI reached USD 13.03 billion, while total registered FDI climbed to USD 34.65 billion. Continued business formation and investment inflows highlighted sustained confidence in Vietnam’s economic outlook and long-term growth potential.

Domestic Market & Consumer Activity

Domestic demand remained a key growth driver. Retail sales of consumer goods and services reached VND 3,889.5 trillion, growing 12.9% year-on-year , indicating healthy consumer spending and improving purchasing power.

Tourism also continued to recover, with international arrivals reaching 12.3 million. Together with rising household income, the recovery supported stronger activity across retail, hospitality, transportation, and other service industries.
